As part of the centenary celebrations of the 24th Guru Maha Sannidhanam of Perur Adheenam, Deivathiru Santhalinga Ramasamy Adigalar, "One Village, One Arasu (Peepal) Tree" was officially launched today (20/03/25) at the Muthamizh Arangam Complex of Santhalinga Adigalar Arts and Science Tamil College. The first sapling was planted, marking the commencement of this ambitious project. The initiative is being carried out under the guidance of the Isha’s Cauvery Calling Movement, which aims to revitalise the Cauvery river.

Speaking at the event, Tamilmaran, Coordinator of the Cauvery Calling Movement, elaborated on the significance of the project, shared, "When Sadhguru launched the “ Project Green Hands” movement in 2004, he emphasized that planting even five Arasu trees in a village could bring about a significant transformation in the people’s mindset. Sadhguru shared a close relationship with the 24th Guru Maha Sannidhanam of Perur Adheenam. In honour of his centenary, and with the blessings and support of the current 25th Aadheenam, we are proud to launch the “One Village, One Arasu Tree” initiative."

"In the past, natural disasters occurred once every 10 or 20 years. Today, they have become annual events. A single day of heavy rainfall triggers floods, while prolonged dry spells lead to droughts. Trees offer a natural and effective solution to mitigate the impacts of global warming."

"A single Arasu tree can produce enough oxygen for 8 to 10 people. Unfortunately, these life-sustaining trees have been destroyed in many places. To reverse this, we proposed planting Arasu trees in every village of Tamil Nadu, a plan that Perur Adheenam wholeheartedly supported. With their guidance, we aim to expand this project across the state."

"In the first phase, we will plant Arasu trees in 2,000 villages across Coimbatore and Krishnagiri districts. Following that, our goal is to implement the project in every village of Tamil Nadu."

Perur Adheenam further highlighted the significance of Arasu trees, stating, "Beyond their ability to provide high levels of oxygen, Arasu trees possess immense medicinal value, particularly in addressing fertility issues. Sadly, these sacred trees have been extensively cut down and are disappearing from many areas."

"In honour of the centenary of Perur Adigalar, we are committed to planting an Arasu tree in every village across Tamil Nadu as part of the “One Village, One Arasu Tree” initiative."

"Historically, Arasu trees were central to our villages—serving as places of learning, centers of worship, and even informal courts of justice. Through this project, we aim not only to plant these trees but also to form local, regional, and district-level committees to ensure their long-term care and protection. This initiative is not just about tree planting; it is about reviving our traditions, culture, environment, and health—a true movement of renewal."

Siravai Aadheenam addressed the gathering and stressed the importance of environmental balance, stating, "The availability of natural resources should be proportional to the population. Planting trees is essential for maintaining ecological balance. I extend my best wishes for the grand success of this initiative."

Vanitha Mohan, Trustee of Siruthuli Foundation, expressed her full support for the project, and emphasized, "No matter how many trees are needed for this project, we are ready to provide them."

Additionally, actor Padava Gopi and Uzhavar Ulaipalar Katchi leader K. Sellamuthu also conveyed their appreciation and best wishes for the initiative.

The event witnessed the participation of several dignitaries, including Aaruchami, Trustee of the Noyyal River Foundation, Ramanathan, President of the Coimbatore Building Construction and Contractors Association, among others.
