A marathon race exclusively for women was conducted in Singampunari, Sivagangai district, to celebrate Women's Day.
To empower women, a mini marathon competition was held from the Singampunari court under the leadership of District Civil and Judicial Magistrate Aparna. The event saw participation from female students of government and private schools.
Before the marathon, participants took a pledge against crimes such as child marriage, sexual harassment, and sexual assault. Hundreds of participants, including government and private school students, college students, court staff, government lawyers, female police officers, and other women, actively took part in the mini marathon. The race started in front of the court, passed through the town’s main roads, reached Sevuga Perumal Temple, and then concluded back at the court.
In connection with Women's Day celebrations, an event was also held at the Anna Branch Library in Tirupathur, presided over by Readers’ Circle Chairman Jayachandran. Librarian Marimuthu and writer Sureshkanth spoke on topics related to women's progress and education.
The event was attended by librarians from Tirupattur and surrounding areas, including Akhila, Rajeshwari, Kamalvizhi, Jayanthi, Saroja, Suganthi, Thiruvadanai Vijaya, Baskaran, and Govindarajan. They emphasized that women play a crucial role in the advancement of men's lives.
The event was organized by library assistants Narayanan and Krishnan. Police officers Kalaignanam and Kovilpandian, along with other readers, participated. The branch librarian Jayakanthan welcomed everyone, and Gunasekaran delivered the vote of thanks.
