Dyson’s first-ever Global Wet Cleaning Study highlights India’s deep-rooted obsession with clean homes, but also reveals that traditional cleaning methods may be spreading more germs than removing them. With 94.5% of Indian homes having hard floors like tile, stone, or wood, daily wet cleaning is a ritual. However, popular tools such as mops, buckets, and cloths are proving inefficient. 49% of users admit to reusing dirty water across rooms, potentially contaminating clean spaces. Despite India leading in mop and cloth usage in APAC, only 33% find them effective, and 45% struggle with stubborn stains.
Dyson’s study shows Indian households spend over an hour daily on cleaning, with 35 minutes on wet floor cleaning alone, yet remain underexposed to advanced wet cleaning technologies. While 62% believe wet-function vacuums are ideal, actual adoption remains low. Indians are now seeking machines that offer easy maintenance (32%), durability (28%), effortless cleaning (25%), and effective handling of tough messes (23%).Dennis Mathews, Dyson Design Manager – Floorcare, said, “While cleaning is deeply ingrained in Indian culture, many are unaware that traditional tools may not be delivering the hygiene they expect. There’s a clear need for modern, efficient wet cleaning solutions that match the pace of busy Indian homes.”
