The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore Branch Office, is conducting a two-day Capsule Course (Training Program) for Quality Control personnel working in the Viscose (Rayon Cut) Staple Spun Yarn industry, as per IS 3566:2023. The training is being held at the Centre of Excellence (COE) Training Hall, SITRA, Coimbatore, on 28 and 29 July 2025, and is being attended by 20 Quality Control personnel from various districts under BIS Coimbatore jurisdiction.
The program commenced on 28 July 2025 with a welcome address by Shri G. Saravanakumar, Standard Promotion Officer (SPO), BIS Coimbatore, who outlined the objectives of the capsule course. Dr. V. Thanabal, Head – Textiles (Physics), SITRA, delivered the keynote address, urging participants to make the most of the training to strengthen their technical competence.
Dr. V. Thanabal also conducted an in-depth technical session covering IS 3566:2023, including relevant Indian Standards, test methods, sample preparation, and handling procedures.
Shri Remyth Suresh M, Joint Director/ Scientist-D, BIS, delivered a session on key BIS initiatives such as the e-BIS portal, Know Your Standards, BIS Care App, and elaborated on the Product Manual, Scheme of Inspection and Testing (SIT), common sample failure cases, and corrective action protocols. Shri Rino John S, Joint Director/ Scientist-D, BIS Coimbatore, provided detailed guidance on procedures for applying for renewals, inclusions, and new applications, and highlighted the latest non-conformity guidelines.
On 29 July 2025, participants will engage in hands-on training, with demonstrations of various testing techniques related to IS 3566: 2023. Attendees will be divided into groups to enable focused, practical learning.
This capsule course is part of BIS Coimbatore’s ongoing initiative to enhance the competence of industry Quality Control personnel. Similar programs are conducted once every two months, focusing on different product categories.
The program will conclude with a valedictory session on 29 July 2025, during which certificates of participation will be awarded.
