The Akshaya School for Special Children run with care and dedication by the Southern Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (SRWWO), has been given a fresh new look.
Tthe newly renovated school on 04th July 2025 formally inaugurated by Smt. Priya Kishore Agrawal, President of SRWWO, Mrs Kamakshi GR Swaminathan , National vice president - Saksham, a pan India service organization for the differently abled and Member in the advisory board of Ministry of social Justice and Empowerment, Govt of India, was the gust of the occasion.
Shri Sharad Srivastava, Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai Davison, Shri L.N.Rao, Additional Divisional Railway manager, Smt.Jyoti Nageshwar Rao, Vice President SRWWO, Smt. Vasanthi GiriPrakash, Tresurer, SRWWO, Smt. Beulah, Principal, Akshaya, Members of SRWWO, Officers of Madurai Division, Parents and Students of 'Akshaya' were present during the function.
A Space Designed with Care
As part of the renovation, a wide ramp stretching 45 metres has been built to make the school more accessible for the children. A spacious, air-conditioned activity hall (550 sq. ft.) has also been added, giving students a comfortable space for learning and activities.
A new compound wall, fresh stucco plastering and brightly painted classrooms have completely transformed the school’s look.
The campus has also been beautified with greenery and clean surroundings, making it a warm and welcoming space for the children.
A School That Nurtures
Located in the heart of the Railway Colony campus,Akshaya School has been a part of the Railway Colony community since 2000 and is recognised by the Government of Tamil Nadu. It currently supports 27 special children, helping them learn and grow in a safe and caring environment.
The children are taught language skills in English and Tamil, along with basic maths and other essential skills. Their daily routine includes yoga, walking exercises, speech therapy, physiotherapy, life-skill training, and vocational activities, all aimed at helping them become more independent and confident.
A dedicated team of three teachers, three caretakers, and one physiotherapist works closely with the students, providing both academic support and emotional care.
With its new facilities and a fresh, cheerful look, Akshaya School continues its heartfelt mission—to ensure a nurturing space where every child is valued, supported and empowered to reach their full potential.
