NPCI Imposes Restrictions on UPI Usage Starting Aug 1

While various restrictions, including checking bank account balance, have been imposed on UPI, it has been announced that it will come into effect from the 1st. UPI is a system that helps in instant money transfers between bank accounts in India. During this time, digital transactions called UPI have also increased among the people.


The use of UPI has increased everywhere to the point that it is now possible to travel from Kanyakumari to Kashmir without a single penny in hand. From pet shops to shopping malls, money can be paid by scanning. UPI transactions are also secure. The National Bank of India is implementing new rules from time to time to improve UPI services.


In this situation, the NPCI has announced new rules for UPI. It has been reported that these rules will come into effect from August 1st in all apps that handle bank accounts including Google Pay, Paytm, Phone Pay.  


Details of this UPI apps can only check bank account balances 50 times a day. Similarly, information about bank accounts linked to a mobile number can be accessed only 25 times a day. This limit is brought to prevent frequent unnecessary use of this facility. Auto debit, which automatically deducts money, will be limited to limited hours only. That is, auto debit is not allowed during peak hours, when transactions are high. Accordingly, auto debit is not allowed between 10 am and 1 pm and between 5 pm and 9:30 pm. These rules are being brought to avoid excessive pressure on its network due to the increase in UPI usage.
