Reserve Bank of India Awareness Program was organised by the Office of the Dean of Student Welfare & the School of Management, Pondicherry University in association with Axis Bank. On 23rd July at the university campus.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. Y. Venkata Rao, Dean – Students’ Welfare, who underscored the significance of financial literacy and awareness in today’s dynamic economic landscape. Following this, Mr. Vincent from Axis Bank introduced the theme of the session — “Awareness on the RBI Ombudsman Scheme” — setting the tone for the deliberations ahead.
Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu, Director of Studies, spoke about the evolving nature of banking and highlighted the growing importance of digital safety in an era rife with online scams and financial fraud. Prof. Clement Lourdes, Director – Culture, further emphasised the relevance of financial safety and vigilance in the digital age.
Prof. Rajneesh Bhutani, Registrar (i/c), commended the organisers and stressed that such initiatives are timely and essential, particularly for students navigating an increasingly digitised financial environment.
Mrs. Uma Chugh, Manager, RBI, provided an overview of the types of complaints addressed through the RBI’s grievance redressal mechanisms.
Mr. Umamaheswaran, Manager, RBI, spoke about various forms of banking fraud that customers frequently encounter.
Ms. Preethi, Dealing Officer, RBI, introduced students to the RBI Complaint Management Portal, explaining its features and how it empowers consumers to lodge complaints effectively.
To reinforce the learnings from the session, a lively quiz was conducted, with prizes awarded to student participants.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. P. Natarajan, Dean – School of Management, who highlighted the importance of such awareness initiatives for students pursuing management education and preparing to enter the financial and corporate world.
