The “India March for Science” rally was organized by the Breakthrough Science Society (BSS), Madurai Chapter, with the main aim of creating awareness among the public and students about climate change and its causes such as the greenhouse effect, cloud burst etc.,
Speaking at the rally, Prof. Abdul Kadir, President of BSS, stressed that governments and individuals must take cognizance of the reasons for climate change and act responsibly to mitigate its impact. He emphasized the need for collective action to protect the environment and safeguard future generations.
The rally was inaugurated by Prof. Kayathri, Vice-President of BSS, Madurai Chapter, at the Tamilannai Statue, Tamukkam Ground. It concluded at Gandhi Museum with participants raising slogans such as “Curtail the causes of climate change” and “Save the environment.”
At the concluding session, Prof. Abdul Kadir administered a pledge on environmental protection. Prof. Yogarajan also addressed the gathering, underlining the shared responsibility in tackling climate change.
Students, NCC Cadets, and NSS volunteers from Meenakshi College, Wakf Board College, Madura College, Tamil Nadu Polytechnic College, Women’s Polytechnic College, and Madura College School participated actively. A skit on the impacts of climate change was staged by the students of Tamil Nadu Women’s Polytechnic College.
Arrangements for the rally were made by Mrs. Hilda Mary, Secretary, and Mr. Sivakumar, Executive Member, BSS. Large numbers of BSS members, including Arun, Agnel, Nithya, and Bharathi, rendered voluntary services. The program ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Sivakumar.
