FDDI Chennai Celebrates Institute of National Importance Day 2025

The Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) Chennai celebrated Institute of National Importance (INI) Day 2025 with grandeur and enthusiasm, under the inspiring theme “Vision 2030 – Empowering Today, Transforming Tomorrow.” The event brought together eminent industry leaders, academicians, alumni, students, and institutional heads in a spirited celebration of progress and vision.


The day began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by Tamil Thai Vaazhthu and the national anthem. Mr. M. Sundaresan, Executive Director of FDDI Chennai, delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for a day of inspiration and collaboration.


Mr. Selvam, Executive Director, Council for Leather Exports, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Guests of Honour included Dr. K. Senthil Raj, IAS, Managing Director of SIPCOT; Dr. N. Mohan, CEO, Kothari Group; Sh. Abdul Razak, MD, VKC; and Sh. Puneet Malhotra, Regional Director – South Asia, University of Northampton.


A major highlight was the presentation of “Vision 2030” by Shri Vivek Sharma, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI. The visionary roadmap, built on ten strategic pillars, aims to position FDDI as a global design and innovation leader. Dignitaries also unveiled the “One FDDI” Compendium, showcasing FDDI’s comprehensive services to the leather and footwear industry.


The panel discussion on “Role of FDDI – Industry Perspective,” moderated by Mr. Selvam, featured thought leaders including Dr. K.J. Sreeram (CSIR-CLRI), Mr. Binu Rajendran (Walkaroo), Ms. Zara Shafeeq (Elves the Shoemakers), Mr. Noorul Islam (Nordic Hide), Mr. Chinnasamy Anbumalar (PA Footwear Pvt. Ltd.), Dr. N. Mohan (Kothari Group), and Sh. Abdul Razak (VKC).


A compelling Alumni Spotlight session titled “From Campus to Corporate” followed, offering students valuable career insights. A student panel discussion on “Ambitions and Aspirations” showcased the vibrant spirit, goals, and creative energy of the student community.


The celebrations culminated with a colorful cultural program, featuring Bharatanatyam, Kathak, vocal and instrumental performances, and a fashion show “Stride & Style” by design students. A standout was a Karagam folk dance by a second-year student.


A felicitation ceremony honored distinguished guests and contributors, followed by a networking session over high tea—marking a fitting end to a day focused on vision, collaboration, and future leadership.
