The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore Branch Office, set up a stall at the Hindustan International Furniture Fair (HIFF) 2025, India’s largest B2B finished furniture exhibition, held at CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore, from 20th to 22nd September 2025.

The BIS stall showcased the importance of standards in the furniture sector, focusing on quality, safety, and sustainability in both manufacturing and consumer use. Visitors were informed about the role of BIS in developing standards, product certification, hallmarking, and its initiatives linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As per the Quality Control Order, S.O.801(E) dated 14 February 2025, issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, standards for furniture such as work chairs, general purpose chairs, stools, tables, desks, storage units, beds, and bunk beds will become mandatory for large-scale industries from 13 February 2026 and for MSMEs from 13 August 2026.

The stall received an excellent response with more than 2,000 visitors, including manufacturers, traders, and industry representatives, who interacted with BIS officials to learn more about adopting Indian Standards.

Through interactive displays, brochures, and expert guidance, BIS created awareness among manufacturers, traders, and consumers about the benefits of adopting Indian Standards for improving competitiveness in both domestic and global markets.
