Canon yesterday announced the launch of its latest Cinema EOS camera, the EOS C50, a highly versatile, full-frame, RF-mount hybrid camera designed for professional videographers and agile production teams. As the smallest camera in the Cinema EOS lineup to date, the EOS C50 offers powerful capabilities while fitting into a wide range of shooting setups – from fast-paced assignments to large-scale productions.

At the core of the EOS C50 is a new 7K full-frame CMOS sensor paired with the DIGIC DV 7 processor, delivering exceptional image quality for both video and stills. The camera supports internal RAW video recording at up to 7K 60p, high frame rate shooting at 4K 120p / 2K 180p, and 32MP stills, providing filmmakers and content creators with unprecedented flexibility and precision.

A standout feature is the open gate recording, the first in the Cinema EOS lineup, which uses the entire sensor area for maximum resolution and creative freedom. In Full Frame 3:2 mode, filmmakers can capture larger images, making it easier to edit both horizontal and vertical formats or work with anamorphic lenses for a cinematic wide-screen look. The camera’s Simultaneous Crop Recording function allows users to shoot full-angle footage and cropped vertical or square versions at the same time, ideal for social media content and quick turnaround projects.

The EOS C50 also offers a hybrid design that seamlessly transitions between video and still photography. Its interface adapts accordingly, with Cinema EOS menus for video and the familiar EOS R layout for photos. Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II ensures fast and accurate autofocus, including eye-tracking for people, animals, and birds.

Designed for mobility and adaptability, the EOS C50 features a lightweight, modular body with multiple mounting options and the ability to shoot in both horizontal and vertical orientations. Its detachable handle unit provides camcorder-style controls, along with professional audio inputs via two full-size XLR ports.

Connectivity is a key highlight, with USB-C, HDMI, MIC and Timecode terminals, dual card slots for CFexpress and SD cards, and support for UVC/UAC livestreaming at up to 60p. Canon’s collaboration with Adobe enables Frame.io Camera to Cloud workflows, allowing proxy files to be sent directly from the camera to post-production platforms.

The EOS C50 is priced at ₹299,900 (inclusive of all taxes) and will be available soon. Canon also announced upcoming firmware updates for existing Cinema EOS cameras, further enhancing features such as open gate recording and focus assist tools.

With its compact form, robust connectivity, and unmatched image quality, the EOS C50 sets a new standard for hybrid cinema cameras.
