SRMIST Launches National Seminar on “The Rise of Blue Finance” in Tamil

The Department of Networking and Communications, School of Computing, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), inaugurated a three-day National Seminar on “The Rise of Blue Finance (Tamil)”, as part of the AICTE-VAANI 2025–26 initiative. Scheduled from September 10–12, 2025, the seminar focuses on deep-sea technology, ocean acoustics, underwater acoustic sensors, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer vision to address challenges in marine ecosystems and support a sustainable blue economy.


The inaugural session featured a welcome address by Dr. M. Lakshmi, Professor & Head, NWC, and Seminar Coordinator, who highlighted the importance of conducting high-end technical discussions in Tamil under the AICTE-VAANI program. Dr. S. S. Sridhar, Associate Dean (Academics), SRMIST, delivered the Presidential Address, followed by the Chief Guest Address from Dr. Athiyaman Balakrishnan, Scientist-F, NCMRWF, Ministry of Earth Sciences.


Dr. Revathi Venkataraman, Professor & Chairperson, School of Computing, spoke on the critical role of computing and ocean technologies in sustainable development, while Dr. G. Abinaya, Assistant Professor, elaborated on the seminar’s scope. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. G. Ramya, Assistant Professor, NWC.


Over the three-day event, distinguished experts from institutions including NCMRWF, NIOT, NCCR, ICAR, and NITTTR will deliver sessions on topics such as deep-sea exploration, ocean acoustics, underwater sensor networks, meteorological modelling, AI-powered satellite imaging, and marine spatial planning.


The seminar reinforces SRMIST’s commitment to advancing technology-driven marine sustainability and promoting knowledge dissemination in regional languages, aligning with AICTE’s vision for inclusive education and outreach.
