The Department of Anatomy, in collaboration with the Community Outreach Committee, JIPMER, is organizing a series of outreach programs from 12th to 15th October 2025 to mark World Anatomy Day and raise awareness on Voluntary Body Donation. The program is being conducted under the guidance of Dr. Vir Singh Negi, Director; Dr. Vikram Kate, Dean (Academic); Dr. Saka Vinod Kumar, Medical Superintendent; Dr. Sunil Narayan, Dean (Research); Dr. Ravi Kumar Chittoria, Associate Dean, JIPMER; and Dr. Betsy, Chairman, Outreach Committee.
As part of the initiative, an Awareness Rally was held on 12th October, flagged off by Dr. Saka Vinod Kumar. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from MBBS students, postgraduates, faculty, staff, NGOs, and members of the public, with over 150 participants promoting the message of body donation.
In his address, Dr. Saka Vinod Kumar described voluntary body donation as a noble and essential act that advances medical education and research, noting that the knowledge derived from cadaveric study is irreplaceable by any textbook or digital medium. Dr. Sarasu J., Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy, emphasized that donated bodies—after preservation and de-identification—become the first teacher of every medical student, enabling them to understand the human body in its truest form and depth, beyond what textbooks can convey.
The four-day program features media outreach sessions, creative competitions, role-play skits, and awareness activities, culminating on 15th October with the Honouring of Donor Families, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session, and the Inauguration of JIPMER’s Online Portal for Voluntary Body Donation Pledging. Through this initiative, JIPMER seeks to inspire the public to come forward for this selfless act and recognize body donation as a true “Gift Beyond Life.”
Until the online portal becomes fully operational, those wishing to pledge or register may contact the Department of Anatomy at 0413-2298466, or visit the Ground Floor of the JIPMER Academic Center.
The program was coordinated by the faculty and residents of JIPMER — Dr. Gladwin, Dr. Raveendranath, Dr. Dharmaraj, Dr. Yogesh, Dr. Rajasekhar, Dr. Dinesh, Dr. Sulochana, Dr. Vidya, Dr. Suma, Dr. Suman, and Dr. Aravindhan.
