Lady Doak College Hosts VIYAN ’25 – “Unfurling Wings of Victory”

Lady Doak College successfully hosted VIYAN ’25, the vibrant intercollegiate cultural fest titled “Vetri Siragai Viri”, on 26 September 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The event was organised by the Deans of Student Affairs Dr. S. Arokia Shyamala and Ms. Joice Rathinam E., the Assistant Deans of Student Affairs, Dr. Jullie Prathiba J. and Dr. Esther Elizabeth Grace C, along with the vibrant Student Cabinet. They witnessed an enthusiastic participation from more than 20 colleges across Tamilnadu and about 813 students, celebrating a day of talent, creativity, and expression.


The grand inaugural ceremony began with a soulful prayer song by the Centre for Music, followed by a moment of quiet devotion led by Ms. S. Jessica, PG Representative (SF), Student Cabinet. Ms. K. Lavanya, Cultural Secretary, Student Cabinet, extended a warm welcome to the gathering.


The traditional lighting of the lamp marked the official commencement of the fest, symbolising knowledge, creativity, and unity. In her inaugural address, Dr. R. Beulah Jeyashree, the Principal and Secretary, acknowledged the Chief Guest and sponsors while lauding the overwhelming response from participants. She emphasised that while winning is commendable, participation holds greater significance, urging students to explore their talents with confidence.


Ms. R. Shekinah, Vice President (Aided), introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. Christopher Gnanaraj M, Director of Rise Advertising Pvt. Ltd., popularly known as the “Comedy King.” With a career spanning roles as television compere, radio jockey, film actor, and programme coordinator, he has received accolades such as the Palkalai Arasan Award and the Asathal Mannan Award. In his address, he highlighted the role of education in personal growth, encouraging students to use technology wisely and pursue their goals with determination.


The Vote of Thanks for the inaugural ceremony was delivered by Ms. R. Farhana, President, Student Cabinet.


The valedictory ceremony commenced with a reflective prayer by Ms. Saloma Joycelyn Prince, J.C.A.R. Chairperson, Student Cabinet. Ms J. Jersha presented the welcome note, and Ms S. Sathiya Jothi, Cultural Secretary, introduced the Chief Guest, Mrs Nandini, Head of Programming at Mayorka Productions.


In her inspiring address, Mrs Nandini recounted the remarkable journey of Ms. Arunima Sinha, the world’s first female amputee to scale Mount Everest. She urged young women to face life’s challenges with courage and to strive for financial independence.


The college also proudly honoured Ms. Jerlin Anika, Arjuna Awardee and Deaflympian with a cash award of Rs.One lakh, who is set to represent India in the Summer Deaflympics, Tokyo 2025, and in the 10th Asia Pacific Deaf Games—a moment of immense pride for the institution.


The American College, Madurai lifted the Overall Trophy. St. John’s College, Tirunelveli, emerged as the Runners-up. The coveted title of Mr Viyan was awarded to Mr. Sam Kumar, St. Joseph’s College, Trichy


The final Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. B. Santhoshini, President, Student Cabinet, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisers, sponsors, participants, and well-wishers. The event concluded with the College Song by the Centre for Music, followed by the National Anthem, marking the successful close of a day that celebrated youth, creativity, and victory.
