Pondicherry University in collaboration with the Alliance Française de Pondichéry, observed “Le Mois de La Réunion” with a tribute ceremony at the Memorial Stele of the Reunion Islands
The event honoured the historical and cultural connections between India and Réunion Island, particularly the shared heritage of migration and exchange. The Memorial Stele, located on the University campus, stands as a symbol of remembrance for the Indian indentured labourers who travelled to Réunion Island during the 19th century.
The ceremony was graced by Prof. P. Prakash Babu, Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Etienne Rolland-Piègue, Consul General of France in Puducherry and Chennai, Dr. Satish Nallam, President of Alliance Française, and Mr. Laurent Jalicous, Director of Alliance Française, Puducherry.
Faculty, scholars, and students participated in the event, which highlighted the enduring Franco-Indian cultural relationship. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sarmila Acharif, Head of the Department of French and Dr. Ritu Tyagi, Faculty.
