It is well known that Poompuhar handicrafts hold a unique place. The Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation, a Government of Tamil Nadu Undertaking known as Poompuhar, was established in 1973 with the objective of preserving ancient arts and improving the living standards of artisans.
Just as it organizes various exhibitions during festive seasons every year, this year, coinciding with the Karthigai Deepam festival, a special exhibition and sale named "Deepam Festival" is being held. It is currently running daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, from 14.11.2025 to 06.12.2025, at the Poompuhar Sales Centre, 1239 Periya Kadai Veedhi, Coimbatore.
Highlights of the Exhibition
This exhibition features an countless number of lamps for sale, including:
Brass Lamps: Ganesha Lamp, Pradosha Lamp, Ashtalakshmi Lamp, Gajalakshmi Lamp, Balaji Lamp, Vishnu Lamp, Mookambikai Lamp, Arunachaleswarar Lamp, Ranganatham Lamp, Conch and Chakra Lamp (Shanku Chakra), small Agal Lamp, Astothram Lamp, Kamakshi Lamp, Kanchi Kamakshi Lamp, Lotus Flower Model Lamp (Thamarai Poomadal), Swan Hanging Lamp (Annam), Elephant Lamp, Standing Ganesha Lamp, Duck Model Nanda Lamp, Murugan Arupadai Veedu Lamp, Murugan Lamp, Brass Chimney Lamp, Swan and Pradhai Lamps (1 foot to 6 feet), Malabar Lamp, Parrot Hanging Lamp (Kili), Kubera Lamp, Nanda Lamp, Fancy Kerala Lamp, Paaladai Lamp.
Specialty Lamps: Conch Lamp made of herbs (Moolikaiyil Seitha Shanku Vilakku), Panchagavya Lamp, Clay Ganesha Lamp, Uruli Lamp, Lotus Lamp, Colored Clay Lamps, and Ceramic Lamps (Peengan Vilakku).

The lamps are displayed for sale with prices ranging from a minimum of ₹10 to a maximum of ₹3 Lakhs.
A special discount of 10% is being offered on all lamps sold at the exhibition.

Mrs. Malathi, the Manager of the Poompuhar Coimbatore Branch, informed press reporters that the exhibition is expected to generate sales of ₹15.00 Lakhs.
