Bisleri International Pvt. Ltd., India’s leading packaged drinking water company, has strengthened public access to safe drinking water in The Nilgiris with the installation of a fully automatic Water ATM at the iconic Ooty Boat House. The unit was inaugurated by Ms. Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, IAS, District Collector of The Nilgiris. This initiative marks a significant move toward improving clean and affordable drinking water availability for residents and tourists.
As part of its broader public welfare initiative, Bisleri will install four additional Water ATMs across key locations including RCTC, Mariyamman Kovil Street, Commercial Street, and the Shooting Spot within the next week. These ATMs are designed to serve thousands of visitors, daily wage earners, and local communities by offering hygienic drinking water at accessible prices.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. K. Ganesh, Director – Sustainability & Corporate Affairs at Bisleri International, emphasized the company’s commitment to community wellbeing. He highlighted that the collaboration with the District Administration not only ensures clean drinking water in high-footfall areas but also supports women’s empowerment through a unique operations model.
A notable feature of this initiative is its women-led governance structure. Each Water ATM will be managed by women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) appointed by the District Collector’s office. These groups will handle daily operations, maintenance, and reporting, while retaining all revenue generated—boosting their financial independence. Only 2-litre Bisleri jars will be used in the dispensing system to ensure product quality and safety.
This initiative reflects Bisleri International’s dedication to sustainable water access and community development, creating long-term positive impact across The Nilgiris.
