BIS Hyderabad Conducts Capacity Building Training Programme for Agriculture Department Officials

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad Branch Office successfully organized a Capacity Building Training Programme for the officials of the Department of Agriculture and Marketing on 28th January 2026 at the Principal Training Institute, Bowenpally, Hyderabad. The programme was aimed at creating awareness and enhancing understanding of Indian Standards and quality assurance practices relevant to the agriculture sector.


The training programme witnessed the participation of around 65 officials from the Hyderabad region, covering the districts of Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Mahabubnagar, Medak, Sangareddy, and Medchal–Malkajgiri. The enthusiastic participation reflected the growing importance of standardization and quality systems in agricultural development and marketing.


In his inaugural address, Shri P. V. Srikanth, Director and Head, Scientist-E, BIS Hyderabad Branch Office, highlighted the pivotal role of Indian Standards in ensuring quality, safety, and sustainability in agriculture. He emphasized that the adoption of Indian Standards helps farmers, consumers, and the overall supply chain. He urged all officials to use only Indian Standard certified products and to insist on ISI-marked products during procurement. He further stressed that strict adherence to Indian Standards at every stage—from crop production to post-harvest handling, storage, and marketing—is essential for achieving a safe, efficient, and sustainable agricultural ecosystem.


Addressing the gathering, Shri B. V. Krishnareddy, Principal, Principal Training Institute, reiterated the significance of Indian Standards in the agriculture sector, stating that standardization contributes to improved productivity, quality assurance, and enhanced market access for agricultural produce. He appreciated BIS for taking such initiatives to build capacity among field-level and supervisory officials.


The technical sessions were conducted by Dr. D. Srinivasa Rao, BIS Faculty, who delivered comprehensive presentations on the role of BIS, standardization processes, certification schemes, and Indian Standards relevant to agricultural inputs, equipment, storage, and marketing. The sessions provided practical insights into how standards can be effectively implemented at the departmental level.


The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participants actively raised queries and shared their field experiences. The officials expressed keen interest and appreciation for the training and acknowledged the usefulness of Indian Standards in improving agricultural practices and ensuring consumer safety.
