SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), located in Kattankulathur, has launched an Advanced Skill and Industry Readiness Centre for the Design and Manufacturing sector. This industry-supported initiative is being implemented with the collaboration of Autodesk.

This centre marks a significant milestone as it is Tamil Nadu’s third skill development centre and the state’s first multidisciplinary centre encompassing Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) disciplines.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice-Chancellor of SRM University, stated:

“This centre will serve as a bridge between academic learning and real-world industry requirements. It will prepare our students to excel in a globally competitive, technology-driven professional environment.”

Senior officials from Autodesk, including Mr. Akhilesh Sahi (President – AEX India), Mr. Arun Kumar (Senior Engagement Education Manager), and Mr. Raghavendra Jayamangal (Manager – Customer Success), participated in the inauguration. They were joined by Dr. Linus Jesu Martin, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at SRM, along with the Heads of the Civil, Mechanical, and EEE departments.

Through this newly established centre, students will gain access to Autodesk’s advanced cloud-based platforms. The centre will offer hands-on training in Building Information Modeling (BIM), digital manufacturing workflows, and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven design.

It is expected that approximately 2,000 students each year from Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, and Media Sciences disciplines will benefit from this initiative. In addition, around 100 faculty members annually will receive training and certification to become certified master trainers, strengthening efforts in skill development, upskilling, and reskilling.

Highlighting the objective of this collaboration, a senior Autodesk official said:

“This partnership with SRM Institute of Science and Technology enables us to equip the next generation of students with cutting-edge tools, technologies, and industry-relevant expertise.”

Beyond infrastructure development, the collaboration will also focus on curriculum enrichment, faculty capability enhancement, and immersive professional learning programs. These efforts aim to prepare students to meet the rapidly evolving demands of the design and manufacturing industries.

The establishment of this Design and Manufacturing Centre further reinforces SRM Institute of Science and Technology’s commitment to technology-integrated education, fostering innovation and experiential learning, and enhancing students’ global employability.
