TNAU Celebrates the 77th Republic Day

The 77th Republic Day was celebrated in a grand manner in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore on January26th, 2026.Respected Dr. K. Subrahmaniyan, Acting Vice Chancellor Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU)hoisted the national flag and delivered the Republic Day address by recalling of genesis of democratic India by Dr B.R. Ambedkar and sacrifices of freedom fighters. 


He emphasised the theme of 77th Republic Day on January 26, 2026, featuring the theme "150 Years of Vande Mataram" and a focus on "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India) symbolising a vision where every Indian contributes to making our nation strong, innovative, and prosperous, by truly living the ideals of 'Reform, Perform, Transform' in our lives.


TNAU has contributed to achieve food and nutritional security in India, TNAU has released 948 crop varieties, 1500 technologies and 171machineries. During 2025, TNAU released 19 new crop varieties including 7 in agricultural crops and 11 in horticultural crops, which enabled increasing the productivity of major crops. He also emphasised the TNAU contribution in Village level medium range weather forecasting, Remote sensing applications in agriculture, Natural farming, Soil and water conservation, New generation fertilizers viz., Nano-fertilizer, Water soluble fertilizer, biofertilizer etc., to minimize use of chemicals in agriculture, Integrated Pest / Disease Management, Innovations in horticulture – High Density Planting, Canopy Management, Grafting technology and Molecular Diagnostics and Biotechnology. The Acting Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of cultivating a strong reading habit among today’s generation, highlighting books as a powerful source of intellectual and revolutionary thought. He recalled the final moments of Bhagat Singh, who, before his execution, asked for time to finish reading the works of Vladimir Lenin, remarking that “a revolutionary is talking to another revolutionary.” He also noted that this historic moment powerfully illustrates how reading shapes ideology, courage, and transformative thinking, and urged students to embrace books as lifelong companions.


He requested students and staff members to take pledge for taking TNAU as number one SAU, and India as a developed nation by 2047 by taking pride of our heritage, fulfilling duties and serving for unity. The arrangements were made Dr. J. Ramalingam, Dean, Students Centre for Welfare.University Officers, Heads of Departments, faculty, students, NCC cadets and NSS volunteers participated in the celebration.
