As part of its ongoing effort to promote mindful mobility, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) conducted a structured Road Safety Awareness Campaign in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The initiative brought together over 2200 participants from Rathinam College of Arts and Science, turning everyday traffic awareness into an engaging learning experience.
The campaign featured awareness sessions on road safety learning, games, quizzes, scenario-based discussions, designed to help participants connect safety principles to real-life situations. The approach emphasized learning by doing, ensuring all the young participants could absorb key messages about alertness, discipline and their role as responsible road users.
According to the MoRTH Road Accidents in India 2023 report, Tamil Nadu recorded 67,213 road accidents in 2023. The state ranks first in India for the total number of road accidents. These figures highlight the critical need for awareness driven learning as an essential component of broader road safety efforts across Tamil Nadu.
All the participants enthusiastically took part in the sessions, which encouraged them to think about how safe choices contribute to safer streets in their neighborhoods.
HMSI’s road safety initiative is guided by its global vision, ‘Safety for Everyone,’ which prioritizes intuitive, age-specific learning modules that can be introduced in educational settings and beyond. Across India, the company has delivered structured awareness campaigns, supported by its network of Traffic Training Parks and Safety Driving Education Centers, engaging millions of learners through interactive formats.
Through such interventions in Tamil Nadu and other regions, HMSI continues to promote awareness and learning as everyday habits that support safer mobility for all.
In 2021, Honda announced its global vision statement for the year 2050 where it will strive for zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles. In India HMSI is working in line with this vision and the Government of India direction of reducing fatalities to half by 2030.
One critical aspect of achieving this goal is developing a positive mindset towards road safety in our children by the year 2030 and continuing to educate them thereafter. Road safety education at schools and colleges is not only to create awareness but to introduce a safety culture in young minds and transform them to be the road safety ambassadors. It empowers future generations to become responsible and significantly contribute to a safer society.
