The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad Branch Office, organized an MSME Meet in association with Laghu Udyog Bharti on 26 May 2026. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 60 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) representing diverse industrial sectors. Shri Vivek Prakash, Joint Director, BIS Hyderabad Branch Office, delivered a detailed presentation on the activities of the Bureau of Indian Standards, covering standardization, conformity assessment schemes, and quality assurance initiatives. He elaborated on the advantages of obtaining BIS certification, the licensing process, and the opportunities available to industries for enhancing product credibility and expanding market access through BIS certification. He also emphasized the importance of active industry participation and collaboration in fostering a strong culture of quality in the country.
During the session, participants showed keen interest in understanding BIS certification procedures, applicable quality standards, and regulatory requirements, reflecting the growing awareness among MSMEs regarding quality compliance and market competitiveness. Shri Vivek Prakash highlighted that BIS certification plays a significant role in building consumer confidence, ensuring product reliability, and supporting long-term business sustainability. He also informed the participants about mandatory certification requirements under various Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by the Government of India.
The technical session covered key BIS schemes, including ISI Mark Certification, the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) for electronics and IT products, and Hallmarking for jewellery. Participants actively engaged in the discussions and sought clarifications on various certification-related aspects. The BIS CARE Mobile App and other digital initiatives undertaken by BIS were also demonstrated to help industries access BIS services in a more efficient and user-friendly manner.
