Dr. Achanta Lakshmipathi Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (ALRARI), Chennai, under the aegis of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), organized a Yoga programme on 21 June 2026 at M.A. Chidambaram School of Nursing, VHS Hospital Campus, Taramani, Chennai.
The programme was conducted with the objective of promoting awareness about the importance of Yoga in maintaining physical, mental, and emotional well-being and encouraging its integration into daily life. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 35 staff members of ALRARI-CCRAS, Chennai, along with 30 nursing students and faculty members of M.A. Chidambaram School of Nursing, bringing the total participation to 65.
The programme was inaugurated by lighting of lamp before Lord Dhanvantari by all the guests. Dr. P. Srinivas, Research officer (Ayurveda) acting In-charge of the Institute, offered medicinal plants as a token of respect. Dr. Saroja Srinivasan, Senior Physician and Academician, VHS Hospital, attended as the Chief Guest. In her address, she highlighted the significance of Yoga as a holistic approach to health and emphasized its growing relevance in modern healthcare practices.
The event was further enriched by the presence of Dr. Deepa, Head of Department, Government Yoga and Naturopathy Medical College, who attended as the Yoga Expert, and Dr. P. Yadagiri, Retired Professor, Government Ayurveda College, who participated as the Guest of Honour. Both dignitaries shared their valuable insights on the role of Yoga and traditional systems of medicine in promoting holistic health and disease prevention.
A Yoga session based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) was conducted under expert guidance. Participants actively performed various yogic practices, including Asanas, pranayama, and meditation techniques. The session fostered awareness regarding the benefits of regular Yoga practice in enhancing physical fitness, mental clarity, stress management, and overall well-being.
The programme was successfully conducted in a disciplined and enthusiastic manner, reflecting the spirit and objectives of International Day of Yoga 2026. The participants expressed keen interest in incorporating Yoga into their daily routines and appreciated the efforts taken to organize the event. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the collective commitment of all participants towards adopting Yoga as a way of life for achieving health, harmony, and holistic wellness.
