Dr. L. Murugan Leads IDY Celebration at Mamallapuram

The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with immense fervor across the globe yesterday.  Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed  the nation from Kolkata where he also performed yoga asanas. Aligning with this grand nationwide momentum, Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, graced the celebrations held at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Group of Monuments in Mamallapuram. The event was organized by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Chennai Circle, under the central theme of "Yoga for Healthy Ageing". 


Addressing the gathering, Union Minister Dr. L. Murugan extended his warm greetings for the 12th International Yoga day. He noted with pride that Yoga is now celebrated worldwide due to the immense  efforts taken by our Prime Minister. "Our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi  wanted to take Yoga, which emerged from the sacred land of India, to the entire world", he said.


Underscoring this year's focus on "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," Dr. Murugan urged the participants to incorporate yoga into their daily routines. " Yoga is not only a cultural art, it is an art for health. Hence, let us all follow Yoga regularly." the Minister emphasized. 


The Union Minister also officially released informative pamphlets on Yoga, produced and published by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Chennai, to further promote public awareness about the health benefits of Yoga.


Prior to the mass demonstration, the participants gathered at the venue witnessed the Prime Minister's address virtually via a live screening. Following this the observance of the Common Yoga Protocol was successfully performed at the venue, led by Union Minister Dr. L. Murugan. The students of the International Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy Sciences performed an artistic rendering of Yoga after the demonstration.


The mass yoga demonstration at Mamallapuram witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 350 participants, bringing together representatives from Indian Navy, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Press Information Bureau (PIB), Chennai and Central Bureau of Communication, Chennai, Vinayaka Mission and students & faculties from the International Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy Medical Sciences.
