The International Day of Yoga was celebrated at the Erode Collectorate campus under the leadership of District Collector Kandhasamy, jointly organized by the Department of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy and Nanda Institute of Naturopathy and Yoga.
Addressing the gathering, the Collector highlighted that in today’s social and economic environment, lifestyle changes and unhealthy food habits have led to chronic illnesses among many people. He emphasized that yoga is a powerful practice to prevent such conditions and to maintain both physical and mental well-being.
He noted that yoga, which originated in India thousands of years ago, has now spread worldwide, offering a healthier way of life. “Yoga is not only for the body but also enriches the mind. It is a holistic discipline that promotes health, peace of mind, concentration, and efficiency,” he said.
The Collector urged teachers, students, government officials, and journalists to adopt yoga as a daily routine. He stressed that regular practice can improve physical health, mental calmness, focus, and overall productivity.
The event included practical demonstrations of yoga asanas, breathing exercises, postures, and meditation techniques conducted by professors and students of Nanda Institute of Naturopathy and Yoga.
Prominent officials and dignitaries present were Joint Director of Welfare Jayanti, District Health Officer Aruna, District Child Development Officer Poongothai, District Siddha Medical Officer Yasodhai, Nanda Educational Institutions Chairman Shanmugan, Assistant Medical Officer (Siddha) Venkatasalam, and Principal Reeves Justlinet Das of Nanda Institute of Naturopathy and Yoga.
