A grand double bullock cart race was held in Tiruppathur, Sivaganga district, to mark the 52nd birthday of Vijay, the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The event was flagged off by Tiruppathur MLA Srinivasa Sethupathi in the presence of North District Secretary Joseph Thangaraj. The race was conducted on the Tiruppathur–Sivaganga National Highway and featured two categories: Periya Madu (large bullocks) and Karichan Madu.
A total of 31 pairs of bullocks participated in the competition, including 12 pairs in the Periya Madu category and 19 pairs in the Karichan Madu category. The race distances were fixed at 8 miles for the Periya Madu category and 6 miles for the Karichan Madu category.
Competitors from various districts, including Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Ramanathapuram, Madurai, and Pudukkottai, took part in the event with their bullocks.
At the conclusion of the thrilling competition, cash prizes, trophies, and special awards were presented to the owners of the winning bullocks as well as to the drivers who guided them to victory.
Hundreds of men, women, children, and fans lined both sides of the highway to witness the exciting race and cheer on the participants. The event arrangements were made by the office-bearers and members of the Tiruppathur Assembly Constituency unit of TVK.
