The GST Appellate Tribunal Tribunal's First Hearing Inauguration Ceremony was held in the august presence of Justice Dr. Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, President, GSTAT, Principal Bench, New Delhi, who inaugurated the proceedings through virtual mode and addressed the gathering. The occasion marked the operationalization of the Chennai Bench as an important institution for adjudication of GST appeals and strengthening access to justice for taxpayers and stakeholders. The ceremony was attended and address by Justice Mayank Kumar Jain, Judicial Member, GSTAT, Principal Bench, New Delhi.


Shri S. Nagarajan, IAS, Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Government of Tamil Nadu; Shri S.K. Vimalanathan, Chief Commissioner of Customs; and Shri Pradip Kumar Singh, Principal Commissioner, GST & Central Excise, Chennai North Commissionerate have also attended the meeting.


A significant milestone in the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) dispute resolution mechanism was achieved today with the commencement of the first hearing of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT), Chennai Bench.


The First Hearing Inauguration Ceremony welcome address was made by Hon'ble Shri Praveen Kumar Jain, Vice President, GSTAT, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry. The occasion was graced by the presence of Hon'ble Shri Griesh Kumar Vaish, Judicial Member, GSTAT, Chennai Bench, and Hon'ble Shri Shaikh Khader Rahman, Technical Member, GSTAT, Chennai Bench.


The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from various stakeholders, including advocates, chartered accountants, departmental officers, representatives of trade and industry associations, and taxpayers. The gathering reflected the collective commitment of all stakeholders towards strengthening the GST framework and ensuring efficient resolution of tax disputes.


The Hon'ble Justice Dr. Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, President, GSTAT, Principal Bench, New Delhi, inaugurated the First Hearing Ceremony and addressed the gathering through virtual mode from New Delhi. In his address, he highlighted the pivotal role of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal in providing a fair, transparent, efficient, and expeditious mechanism for the resolution of disputes arising under the GST regime.
