An International Yoga Day celebration was held recently at Meenakshi Sundareswarar Higher Secondary School in Keezhachivalpatti, near Tiruppathur in Sivaganga district.
The event, organized on the school campus, was presided over by School Education Committee Chairman Lakshmanan. School Secretary P.L. Azhagumanikandan and Treasurer D. Angappan were present on the occasion. Around 1,500 students participated in the programme.
Former Deputy Superintendent of Police (Town), Tiruppathur, Athmanathan, attended as the chief guest and delivered a special address on the topic “Yoga for Enhancing Students’ Concentration.” He congratulated the students and highlighted the importance of yoga in improving focus and mental well-being.
Subsequently, Physical Education Teacher M.S. Vasu demonstrated several yoga postures and techniques for the students. He explained how yoga helps channel scattered energy and develop concentration by calming the restless mind. The training included demonstrations of various asanas such as Vrikshasana (Tree Pose) and Sirsasana (Headstand), as well as practices like Trataka and different types of Mudras.
Members of the School Education Committee, including S.P. Subramanian, S.P. Karuppaiah, and P.R. Ammaiyappan, along with businessman Valliyappan, M. Chokkalingam, and teachers Veerapathran, Moorthy, Azhagumeenal, and Vijayalakshmi, also participated in the event.
Earlier, Acting Headmistress S. Kamalam welcomed the gathering, while teacher A. Thangarasu delivered the vote of thanks.
