The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) commemorated the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 with a series of vibrant programmes centred on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The celebrations were organized by the Advanced Centre for Yoga Therapy Education and Research (ACYTER), Department of Physiology, in alignment with directives from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.

As part of the observance, a Free Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) Training Camp was conducted from June 10 to June 20, 2026, training 171 participants including JIPMER students, faculty, staff, their families, and the general public. These trainees subsequently participated in a mass demonstration at the JIPMER Multipurpose Hall on June 21. The event commenced with a live telecast of the Prime Minister’s International Yoga Day address from Kolkata, West Bengal. Additionally, a stress management workshop titled “Mindfulness and Melody: The Art of Stress Relief,” featuring an experiential session by Mr. Arnab Bishnu Chowdhury from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Trust, attracted 212 attendees. JIPMER also organized a National Webinar titled “Harnessing the Healing Power of Yoga: From Mind-Body Balance to Clinical Applications,” which drew 311 registered participants nationwide.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Negi emphasized that yoga is much more than a system of physical exercises and postures. He noted that yoga represents a comprehensive lifestyle discipline that nurtures harmony between the body, mind and spirit. He also appreciated the efforts of ACYTER in promoting evidence-based yoga practices and integrating yoga into healthcare, education and community wellness initiatives.

Through these diverse initiatives, JIPMER reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the integration of yoga into modern healthcare, promoting psychosomatic wellness and fostering awareness regarding the therapeutic applications of yoga. On the occasion of the 12th International Day of Yoga, the Institute reiterated the importance of embracing yoga as a time-tested practice for enhancing physical, mental and emotional well-being and for supporting healthy ageing across all stages of life.
