The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore Branch Office, conducted an Enforcement Search and Seizure operation at M/s Femina Shopping Mall Private Limited, 107A, Williams Road, Ramyas Hotel, Cantt Colony, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, on 30 July 2026, based on credible information regarding suspected violations of the provisions of the BIS Act, 2016.
The enforcement operation was carried out by a team of BIS officials comprising Shri Rino John S, Scientist-E/Director and Shri Arivazhagan A, Scientist-D/ Joint Director. During the search conducted under the provisions of Section 28 of the BIS Act, 2016, the complex was found to be storing and selling Various Mandatory ISI products like Electric and non-electric toys, potable water bottles - stainless steel, Domestic stainless-steel vacuum flask, stainless steel utensils electric food mixture without the BIS Standard Mark, having an estimated value of ₹5.0 lakhs & above, were seized by the BIS team for violation of the provisions of the BIS Act, 2016.
Shri Ramesh K, Director and Head, Coimbatore Branch Office, stated that appropriate action would be initiated by the Bureau of Indian Standards, Coimbatore Branch Office, against the offenders under the provisions of the BIS Act, 2016. He further informed that, as per Section 28 of the BIS Act, 2016, the offence is punishable, for the first contravention, with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to two years, or with a fine not less than ₹2,00,000, which may extend up to ten times the value of the goods or articles manufactured, sold, offered for sale, or marked with the Standard Mark, or with both.
The use of uncertified or sub-standard above-mentioned products may pose serious risks to consumer safety. BIS therefore urges consumers to purchase only Mandatory ISI products bearing the genuine ISI Mark along with the applicable Indian Standard number and a valid CM/L licence number, which can be verified using the BIS CARE App.
Manufacturers and suppliers are expected to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the BIS Act, 2016, and the applicable Quality Control Orders. Non-compliance with mandatory BIS certification not only compromises consumer safety but also attracts penal action under the law.
