The Postgraduate and Research Department of Mathematics at Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College (Autonomous), Madurai, organised a Hands-on Training on SPSS for Data Analysis on July 27, 2026, to enhance students' practical skills in statistical data analysis using SPSS software.
The programme was attended by 70 participants, including postgraduate students and faculty members. It commenced with a welcome address.
The event was graced by College Principal Dr. A. Ramasubbaiah, Head of the Department of Mathematics Dr. R. Bhavani, faculty members, students, and Dr. S. Amutharani, Associate Professor and Head of the Postgraduate Department of Commerce at Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi, who participated as the chief guest.
M. Dharshini, a third-year B.Sc. Mathematics student, introduced the chief guest. Dr. Amutharani then conducted the hands-on training session on SPSS for data analysis.
During the session, she explained key statistical concepts such as Pearson's Correlation, Hypothesis Testing, and Linear Regression through practical examples. Students were also given live demonstrations on entering data into SPSS, performing statistical analyses, and accurately interpreting the results.
The training significantly enhanced participants' statistical analysis skills and provided valuable guidance on using SPSS effectively for research methodology, dissertations, and project work at the postgraduate level.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by M. Madhumitha, a second-year M.Sc. Mathematics student, who expressed gratitude to the college management, principal, department head, chief guest, faculty members, and students for making the event a success.
The workshop proved to be an informative and practical learning experience, strengthening students' abilities in statistical analysis, research methodology, and data-driven decision-making.
