TNAU Celebrates World Biofuel Day

The Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, celebrated World Biofuel Day 2026 on 10.8.2026 with the participation of more than 120 students and faculty members. 


The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. V, Palaniselvam, Professor, DREE. Dr. D. Ramesh, Professor and Head, DREE, delivered the felicitation address and emphasized the crucial role of biofuels in achieving sustainable development goals. 


Dr. P. Rajkumar, Dean (Agricultural Engineering), AEC & RI, TNAU, Coimbatore presided over the function. A guest lecture on “3G Biofuels: Trends and Way Forward” was delivered by Dr. R. Rajkumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. He elaborated on the growing importance of third-generation biofuels derived from algae and other microorganisms as promising alternatives for sustainable and clean energy production. He also discussed recent advancements, challenges, and future prospects of 3G biofuel technologies. 


The program concluded with a vote of thanks propsed by Dr. P. Meenakshi, Assistant Professor (DREE). A highlight of the celebration was the symbolic Lighting of Lamps using biofuel produced by B.Tech. (Energy and Environment Engg.) students, demonstrating the practical potential of renewable fuels and reaffirming the younger generation’s commitment to a cleaner and greener future. This celebration reflected TNAU’s continued efforts in promoting renewable energy research, education, and awareness for environmental sustainability.
