Uber has announced one of its largest expansions in India, extending its services to 100 additional cities and taking its presence to 225 cities across the country. The expansion, led by Uber Bike, aims to provide affordable and reliable mobility options in smaller cities while creating flexible earning opportunities for thousands of local drivers.

The new expansion covers 18 states and one Union Territory, with Uber Bike operations being introduced initially. The service will cater to everyday travel, including short-distance trips and first- and last-mile connectivity. The expansion stretches from Jammu in the north to Tirunelveli in the south, and from Silchar in the east to Jamnagar in the west.

As part of the Independence Day expansion, Uber is offering first-time riders across India their first Uber ride free for a limited period, allowing more customers to experience app-based mobility and its safety features.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari congratulated Uber on the expansion and said it would improve affordable mobility while creating livelihood opportunities. He also urged states to adopt the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines 2025 to facilitate bike taxis and strengthen first- and last-mile connectivity.

Rishant Ghosh, Director – Consumer & Growth, Uber India and South Asia, said the expansion would take reliable and affordable mobility deeper into India and meet growing demand in smaller cities.

Uber Bike trips include safety features such as Realtime Driver ID Check, an in-app SOS button, trip-status sharing and a 24x7 Safety Line.
