ABT Society organised a special farmers’ meeting at Thittuparai village, bringing together 50 farmers for an interactive session on practical approaches to commercial dairy farming, improving milk productivity and building sustainable farm income.
Held under the theme “Vetriyin Vazhikaatti – Guide to Success,” the programme focused on commercial dairy farming, animal health, feed and nutrition, reproductive management, milk productivity, soil health, milk procurement and farm income–expenditure management. Farmers had an opportunity to interact directly with specialists and discuss practical issues relating to their farms.
The programme was held under the leadership of Mr. N. Sezhian, Head, ABT Society. Dr. H. Gopi, Centre of Excellence – Dairy, and Dr. Sudhakar Balakrishnan, Centre of Excellence – Soil Health, shared practical guidance with farmers in their respective areas of expertise.
Dr. Dhanasekar, Entomologist, Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture (KIA), interacted with farmers on crop protection and related farm-level concerns. Mr. N. Sampathkumar, Manager – Procurement, discussed milk procurement and market linkage. Mr. C. Paramasivam, Cluster Manager – Chandrapuram, along with the field team, participated in the discussions with farmers.
The dairy farming session covered animal health, balanced feed and nutrition, reproductive management, improvement in milk production and farm income–expenditure management. The discussions emphasised that commercial dairy farming should go beyond increasing the number of milch animals and focus on animal quality, productivity, systematic management and farm economics.
A key feature of the programme was the opportunity for farmers to bring their farm-level issues directly to specialists and seek practical guidance. The interaction also highlighted the importance of connecting dairy development with farm resources, sustainable farmer income and the overall prosperity of farming families.
Rasu, a lead farmer from Thittuparai, supported the local coordination of the programme and welcomed the participating farmers.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion between farmers, specialists and the field team, reinforcing ABT Society’s approach of bringing knowledge, technical expertise and field-level support closer to farmers and their families.
