The Union Government has acted swiftly on the request of Tamil Nadu Minister for Social Welfare and Women’s Rights K. Jagadeeswari to include Tamil in the Centre’s ‘Mission Shakti’ app.

The move will enable people in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to access services related to women’s safety and welfare through the app in their mother tongue, Tamil.

Participating in a national conference in Delhi, Minister K. Jagadeeswari emphasised that language should not be a barrier to ensuring that government schemes relating to women’s safety, empowerment and welfare reach all sections of society. She specifically requested that Tamil be added to the Mission Shakti app for the benefit of people in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Following her request, the Union Government took prompt action to incorporate Tamil into the app. The initiative is expected to make government welfare schemes and support services for women more accessible to Tamil-speaking people.

Expressing her gratitude, Minister K. Jagadeeswari said she thanked the Union Government on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Government and the people of Tamil Nadu for responding promptly to her request. She also conveyed her heartfelt thanks to Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi for supporting the inclusion of Tamil in the Mission Shakti app.

The Minister further said that the Centre’s prompt response to public needs and its decision to give Tamil its rightful place were commendable.
