Get ready for a celebration of laughter, comedy, and live entertainment as the International Clown Festival 2026 comes to Chennai this October. With “Search for Lost Laughter” as its theme, the festival will bring together an unforgettable theatrical experience filled with comedy, juggling, music, physical theatre, and plenty of laughter. The Chennai edition of the festival will be held on October 10 and 11, 2026, at Sir Mutha Auditorium, with shows scheduled at 3 PM and 7 PM on October 10 and at 11 AM, 3 PM and 7 PM on October 11.
The International Clown Festival is a celebration of the universal language of laughter, bringing together the art and craft of professional clowning with the energy of live theatre. Through its “Search for Lost Laughter” theme, the festival invites audiences to rediscover the simple joy of laughter through performances that transcend language and cultural boundaries. Designed as a family-friendly experience, the festival combines visual comedy, physical performance, music, juggling, and audience interaction to create a show that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. With its unique blend of entertainment and theatrical skill, the festival aims to introduce audiences to the many dimensions of contemporary clowning.
The festival is curated and produced by Martin Flubber D'Souza, an award-winning international clown, former Vice President of the World Clown Association, and recipient of the International Clown of the Year award. Known for his popular clown persona, Martin has performed on major stages across seven countries and has spent years championing the art of professional clowning and bringing international clown theatre to audiences in India.
Speaking about bringing the festival to Chennai, Martin Flubber D'Souza said, “Clowning is about much more than makeup, costumes, and making people laugh. Behind every performance is years of practice, discipline, and a deep understanding of how to connect with an audience. Chennai has a wonderful appreciation for the performing arts, and we are excited to bring the International Clown Festival here and share the joy, energy, and magic of clowning with families across the city.”
Over the years, the International Clown Festival has grown into a celebration of international clowning and family entertainment, creating opportunities for audiences across India to experience performers from different parts of the world. This year, clowns from Brazil, Spain, Peru and Argentina will come together in Chennai as part of the festival’s wider 2026 celebrations, giving audiences an opportunity to experience the colour, creativity, and spontaneity of international clown theatre live on stage.
Audiences can look forward to a vibrant celebration of comedy, music, movement, and the timeless art of making people laugh.
