Mars has partnered with Coimbatore-based Humane Animal Society to promote responsible pet adoption as part of the 2026 Mars Global Adoption Weekend. According to a survey conducted across 2,000 adults in India, 56% of respondents have experience with shelter or rescue adoption, while 69% of young Indians aged 25–34 have adopted a pet. Mars has also launched an online Adoption Hub to provide expert guidance and support to prospective pet parents.
The survey highlights key challenges to pet adoption, including concerns about pets’ medical history, behaviour and compatibility with households. It also found that 89% of adopters in India change their pets’ food after adoption, underlining the importance of expert nutritional guidance and responsible pet care.
Manish Syag, Managing Director, Mars Pet Nutrition, India, said that adoption is a powerful way to provide animals with safe and loving homes. He added that Mars is committed to promoting animal welfare, responsible pet ownership and community education while helping prospective pet parents make informed, lifelong commitments to their pets.
