The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Government of India in collaboration with Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai initiated a five days training program on “Youth Action in Heat Waves: Reducing Vulnerabilities, Enhancing Capacities and Building Resilience”. On April 24th 2023, the five days training program was inaugurated and commenced at the School of Economics, Madurai Kamaraj University,
Dr. Balu I, instructor from NIDM, New Delhi gave his insights about the programme. The Chief Patron Prof. J. Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University delivered the Presidential and Inaugural Address and had highlighted on the importance of the training programme. The inauguration session of this five days training programme also had the august presence of Dr. Kumar Raka, Senior Programme Officer of NIDM who delivered the opening remarks.
Other dignitaries such as Dr.S.Nagarathinam, Member Syndicate and the Chairperson, School of Economics, Madurai Kamaraj University delivered special address about the training programme and had felicitated the dignitaries for the training programme on the Dias. Dr.V.Suthacini of the School of Economics concluded the inauguration function with the vote of thanks.
This five days training programme was initiated under the leadership of Prof.J.Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University and Prof. Santhosh Kumar, Professor and Head, CCDRR & GIDRR, NIDM, New Delhi. On the first day of the training programme, Dr.Kumar Raka handled the first technical session on “Basic concepts of disaster risk management”. Overall, this five days training programme is being conducted to train, prepare and impart sound knowledge on the importance of disaster management to faculty members, NSS, NCC, YRC, Nature and Eco Club coordinators and scholars from different educational institutions affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University. The programme has been designed with the following training modules, “Understanding disasters, Climate Change and Heat Waves”, “Vulnerabilities and Health Impact of Heat Waves, “Role of Youth in reducing vulnerabilities enhancing capacities and building resilience for Heat Waves”.
