Amidst the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, the Centre has appointed Vineet Joshi as the new chief secretary of the state, according to an official order.
Joshi, currently the Director-general of the national testing agency (NTA) replaced Rajesh Kumar.
The new chief secretary was appointed at the request of the Manipur government following the approvals by the appointments committee of the cabinet.
The personnel division of the state government notified the appointment officially, expressing the Centre’s pleasure to have Dr Vineet Joshi as chief secretary.
Till now 54 deaths are registered following the violent clashes that erupted in the northeastern state after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' organised in the 10 hill districts on 3 May, a protest against the Meitei community demanding scheduled tribe (ST) status.
The violence has triggered tension in the state. The government is making all possible attempts to rescue the violence-hit citizens and has so far moved 23,000 victims to military garrisons.
