Integrated communication outreach programme on Environment Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Millets

Central Bureau of Communication Field Office Tiruchirapalli under Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry organised Integrated Communication Outreach Programme ICOP on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Mission Life environment, International Year of Millets at Puthurpalayam Community Hall Pullambadi Trichy on July 27. 

Mr. K Ravindran, Field Publicity Assistant Thanjavur in his welcome address said that the ICOP is organised in coordination with Pullambadi Panchayat Union office at Puthurpalayam. He said world population day is also included in awareness programme. 

Mr. K Devi Padmanabhan Field publicity officer Tiruchirapalli in his key note address said that the outreach programme is organised to create awareness about safeguarding environment, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan  and importance of nutritious food especially Millets. He pointed out International year of Millets is celebrated this year under auspices of United Nations. India had urged UN to declare Millets awareness year and UN General Assembly adopted resolution to celebrate Millet year in 2023. Harnessing the untapped potential of Millets for food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture is this year’s theme. He pointed out Mission Life environment ensures preserving nature and urged to avoid usage of one time plastic. He spoke about usage of cloth bags instead of plastic bags to protect environment. Through Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which was started on Mahatma Gandhi Jayanthi day October 2 in 2014 till now more than 12 crore individual toilets have been built in rural areas. This has helped in making the rural areas open defecation free regions leading to reduction in spread of diseases. 

Ms. Nalini Ravichandran, Panchayat President, Pullambadi, Mr. S Sankar Vice president Pullambadi spoke. 

Dr S Savithri Deputy Director TB in her special address said that government is taking efforts to eradicate TB by 2025. She urged people who are having symptoms of TB to approach government hospital and take treatment on time.  Dr A Santhi Deputy Director Leprosy in her special address said that free treatment is given for leprosy patients in government hospitals. She urged people with symptoms to immediately take treatment. 

Mr. S Rajendran BDO Pullambadi in his special address urged people to utilise individual toilets built under SBM. He urged public not to throw garbage in public places and segregate waste while giving to sanitary workers. 

Mr. Ravichandran  BDO Pullamabadi urged people not to use plastics and use cloth bags. Dr Baskaran BMO Pullambadi urged people to keep surroundings clean and prevent spread of disease. He spoke about importance of cleanliness and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to prevent spread of disease and urged people to use individual toilets. He said that many diseases are spread through open defecation. 

Ms. Mallika ICDS supervisor Shri Balakrishnan VAO and others spoke. Mr. Dhanraj, Pullambadi Panchayat Secretary rendered vote of thanks. 

Cloth bags were distributed to public to prevent usage of plastic bags. Pamphlets and notices on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Mission Life and government schemes were distributed to public. Bharatalaya Kalai Kuzhu government registered song and drama troupe performed awareness programme on various themes including Dengue prevention.  Tuymai Kavalars sanitary workers of Puthurpalayam were honoured and given prizes. Students from Pullambadi govt higher secondary school who won prizes in competition on Environment safeguard and Millets were given prizes. Stall on TB eradication was organised for the benefit of public.
