The Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) Special Economic Zone, Tambaram, celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with vibrant patriotism, unity, and the unveiling of forward-looking initiatives aligned with MEPZ Vision 2050.
The celebrations began with a warm welcome, the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, and a spirited patriotic song performed by MEPZ staff. Shri Alex Paul Menon, IAS, Zonal Development Commissioner, MEPZ, unfurled the national flag, paying homage to the nation’s freedom fighters. In his address, he underscored MEPZ’s vital role in boosting exports, fostering innovation, and driving sustainability, while highlighting the Vision 2050 roadmap to build a cleaner, greener, safer, and growth-focused future.
The event featured a Guard of Honor by MEPZ Security personnel, the presentation of electric vehicles to the Estate Team as part of MEPZ’s clean and green initiatives, and the launch of new official websites for MEPZ and the MEPZ Authority to enhance transparency and accessibility for stakeholders.
Under MEPZ Vision 2050, the Zone’s development agenda goes beyond infrastructure upgrades—it aims to strengthen human connections, protect natural resources, and promote equity. The plan focuses on four key pillars:
Clean – Healthier air, cleaner water, and waste-free living.
Green – Cooler, tree-filled spaces powered by renewable energy.
Safe – Secure workplaces and emergency-ready communities.
Growth-Focused – More jobs, upgraded skills, and inclusive opportunities.
These initiatives deliver real benefits—fewer doctor visits, lower electricity bills, safer commutes, and better-paying jobs—ensuring that economic growth also heals the planet and uplifts communities.
The event concluded leaving attendees inspired by India’s remarkable journey and MEPZ’s enduring commitment to shaping a sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready economic hub.
