Every year Swami Vivekananda's birthday is celebrated on 12th January in the name of youth festival on behalf of the youth welfare and sports department of the central government. In order to select the NSS volunteers to represent Madurai Kamaraj University at the national festival, a selection camp was held at Annai Fathima College, Thirumangalam, Madurai.
The camp was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University, Professor Kumar. In his address, he urged the students to use the latest technological advancements, such as artificial intelligence, to develop their skills and creativity. He also encouraged them to pursue their dreams in their chosen fields.
The principal of Annai Fathima College, Dr. Abdul Kadir, said that the NSS program provides a platform for students to develop their individual talents. He appealed to them to make use of this opportunity to build a strong foundation for their future.
The state NSS officer, Professor Senthil Kumar, and the university NSS coordinator, Professor Pandi, explained the objectives of the National Youth Festival.
The camp included competitions in folk dance, group dance, solo dance, folk song, essay writing, and stage speaking. The students who excelled in the cultural events were awarded prizes. The students who were selected to represent Madurai Kamaraj University at the national festival were also announced.
Earlier, Professor Muniyandi, the NSS officer of Annai Fathima College welcomed the gathering. The event was attended by over 150 students and 40 NSS program officers from 25 colleges in Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, and Virudhunagar districts.
The arrangements for the camp were made by by Profs. Muniyandi, Ramuthai, Jothi, physical director Narayana Prabhu, system engineer Udayakathiravan and human resource manager Muhammed Fasil.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Poongothai of Senthamil College.
