Mother Teresa Women's University, Research and Extension Centre, Madurai Campus celebrated “Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav” with enthusiasm and intellectual vigor on December 11, 2023. The 75-day Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav celebration showcased a diverse range of activities, engaging participants in a cultural and educational extravaganza. Dr.K.Kavitha, Assistant Professor of Computer Science has welcomed the gathering.
The programme commenced with the special address by Dr. M. Pushpa Rani, Director, exploring the profound theme of "Mahakavi Bharathiyum Viduthalai Yeluchiyum," unraveling the intricate relationship between Mahakavi Bharathi and the concept of freedom and the heritage of Tamil Language. She has also highlighted that Tamil, a tapestry of heritage and valor, unfurls with the undying pride of a language that breaths the spirit of the resilient culture.
The Chief Guest of the celebratory event was Dr. Vasuki Jeyarathinam, former Professor in Tamil at MTWU has graced by her esteemed presence. Currently holding the prestigious position of Honorary Professor at the Vision Research Centre Arivuthirukovil, Azhiyar, and Gandhian College of Thought at the Gandhi Museum, Madurai. She has delivered a captivating speech, sharing her insights and perspectives on the significance of preserving and celebrating Indian languages through Tamil Literature.
Expert talk has been delivered by Dr. Meenapriyadharshini, Assistant Professor& Director i/c of Women Studies. Her thought-provoking talk on the functional aspects of women's language, offering valuable insights into the dynamic nature of linguistic expression among women through Indian Epics. A Short Film on the "Life Time Achievement of Subramania Bharati," offering a cinematic portrayal of the remarkable life and contributions of the iconic figure was screened for the participants.
Students have also showcased their talents by visually captivating Exhibition on "Organs of Speech," shedding light on the complexities of language and communication and exhibiting Bharathiyar's vision through a pictorial narrative, capturing the essence of his ideas and philosophy. Various competitions were conducted for the students and they eagerly participated in Speech, Skit, ‘Poetry writing’ and ‘Drawing competition’, by making the programme more meaningful. Collaborative efforts between the students resulted in lively Folk Performances and an evocative Street Play, adding a cultural touch to the celebration.
The Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav Celebration at Mother Teresa Women's University was a resounding success, providing participants with a holistic experience that encompassed intellectual growth, cultural appreciation, and community engagement.
