Banned Tobacco Products Worth Rs 2,73,956 Destroyed in Erode

The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, Revenue Department, Corporation Administration, Police and Public Health Department are conducting surprise inspections near schools and colleges and other shops to check the sale of banned tobacco products.


As per the orders of the Erode District Collector, 59 shops were sealed and a fine of Rs 12.85 lakh was imposed on the Food Safety Department in February month alone.


Based on this, the banned tobacco products were destroyed in the Vendipalayam Corporation Compost Depot in the presence of a committee of the concerned departments as per the provisions of the Act. Its total value is Rs 2,73,956. Food safety officer Thanga Vignesh said that the public can contact the WhatsApp 9444042322 number for complaints related to food and banned tobacco.
