Administering of Pledge, Awareness Rallies, Exhibition of environment friendly products, planting of tree saplings marked the observance of World Environment Day in Madurai Division.
Functions were held at Divisional Railway Manager's office ( Madurai), Madurai Junction Railway Station, Virudhunagar,Kovilpatti Tirunelvlei, Tenkasi, Sengottai, Milaviattan, Tuticorin, Paramakkudi, Ramanathapuram, Karaikkudi and Palani.
At the Divisional Railway Manager's Office , Madurai World Environment Day and Mission Life pledge was administered by Shri Sharad Srivastava, Divisional Railway Manager. Followed by this, DRM flagged off an environment awareness rally which was participated by NCC Cadets from Madura College and Thiagarajar College, Bharat Scouts and Guides of Madurai Division & Railway School and Students of Railway School.
Tree saplings were planned at Divisional Office premises and in Railway Colony.
Southern Railway Women's Welfare Organization (SRWWO), Madurai organised a tree plantation at the new Running Room premise under the leadership of Smt. Priya Agrawal, President, SRWWO.
This year’s theme for World Environment Day is ‘Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience. An online quiz competition on environmental awareness for the division's staff was organized in the afternoon.
One month long programme
These programs will continue throughout the month in the Division.
The action plan also includes a mass tree plantation drive, land restoration activities such as reforestation, soil conservation, and protection of natural processes. Additionally, there will be the creation of green spaces at railway stations, railway colonies, and carriage and wagon depots, as well as the creation and renovation of rainwater harvesting pits.
