The father of library sciences Dr.S.R.Ranganathan’s birthday is being celebrated as National Librarians Day in our country. He made initiative for the creation of laws for library and was brain behind to implement the same in all states, for proper functioning of libraries.
Keeping this in mind, Centre for Students’ Welfare organised National Librarians’ Day on 12.08.2024 at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Library. In this occasion, students came to know about the library and the benefits of reading the printed books. Various competitions were conducted and prizes were distributed for winners to encourage reading habits and regular usage of library by the students.
Dr.K.M.Sellamuthu, Professor (Soil Science) & Library (i/c) initiated the function by welcoming the gathering. The National Librarians’ Day was presided by Dr.N.Maragatham, Dean, Centre for Students’ Welfare, TNAU, Coimbatore. During the Presidential address she explained the importance of reading books and getting knowledge from reading habit. Dr.C.Samson, English Faculty and Principal of S.N.V.Global School, Coimbatore was the chief guest. In his speech, he enlightened the importance of Library and pride of librarians. Dr.K.Thangaraj, Professor (English) delivered the felicitation address. The former librarians of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Prof.K.Balasubramanian, Th.R.Borayan and Dr.K.Perumalsamy were honoured during this event. They shared their experience with the students and motivated for their career by utilizing the library resources. Finally Dr.S.Rani, Librarian (i/c) proposed the vote of thanks.
