Devotees Demand Restoration of Om Shakti Worship Center Blocked by Temple Authorities

Business MInutes

The Om Shakti weekly worship center functioning  for many years in the Karupanna Swamy temple in Periyar Nagar, Erode.  The management of the temple has put up barricades around the temple, and said that devotees and other people are not allowed to perform any rituals in this temple, which is under the control of the Hindu Religious Endowment Department.

Due to this, the Om Shakti weekly worshipers, who were unable to enter the temple and conduct worship, requested the Hindu Religious Endowment Department to remove the restrictions.  The temple management refused to accept this and chased away the weekly worshipers who had gone to worship.  Enraged by this, more than a hundred worshipers besieged the temple premises and engaged in protest, then removed the barricades and worshiped in the temple.

About this

According to the congregation members, our weekly congregation has been functioning here since 1978.  The members of the board of trustees here are trying to remove our house of worship from here by erecting barricades to prevent worship.  The Hindu Religious Charitable Department officials are putting pressure on us through trustee board administrators and priests to remove us from here who have been worshiping for more than 40 years.

They said that the government should intervene in this problem and bring about a smooth solution and take steps to continue worshiping weekly.

Similarly, the weekly worship center located in Theppakulam area of Erode, which has been functioning for more than 43 years, is now found to be defunct in Theppakulam

They came in asking for permission to put working materials inside for work and then encroached saying that this is our place and pushed the Om Shakti temple outside.

Now the people of the area are talking about giving the place in a temple nearby to as which belonging to a particular community people.

Similarly, it is still questionable how many more weekly places of worship were occupied.
