The Prof. Mrs. Anna Abraham Endowment Lecture Series XIV was held on 23rd September 2024 at the Dr. Betty Chinniah Multimedia Theatre, Lady Doak College, Madurai. This lecture series, dedicated to the memory of Prof. Mrs. Anna Abraham, continued its tradition of fostering scholarly discussions on history, culture, and society.
The event began at 11:30 am with a prayer led by Dr. Jessie Ranjitha Jebaselvi, Chaplain & Associate Professor of English, Lady Doak College, Madurai. Following the prayer, Dr. S. Mercy Packiam, Controller of Examinations, Head & Associate Professor of History, delivered the welcome address. The introductory remarks were presented by Dr. R. Beulah Jayashree, Principal & Secretary of Lady Doak College. A notable segment of the event was the reminiscence delivered by Dr. Lekha Fenn, an alumna of the 1990 M.A. History batch, and the Programme Manager of the International Study Centre, Lady Doak College. Dr. Fenn shared personal reflections from her time as a student, offering an inspiring glimpse into the rich legacy of the college.
The highlight of the event was the Endowment Lecture, delivered by Dr. S. Anuzsiya, Senior Lecturer, Grade I, Department of Social Sciences, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. Dr. Anuzsiya, a respected historian and academic, captivated the audience with her lecture on "The French Society and French Revolution in 1789." Her insightful analysis explored the complex social, political, and cultural forces that shaped one of the most significant revolutions in history. Drawing on historical evidence and contemporary relevance, Dr. Anuzsiya’s lecture provided a deep understanding of the revolution's lasting impact on modern society.The event concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr.T.Durga Devi, Assistant Professor of History, Lady Doak College.
