Ambedkar People Movement leader Ilamurugu Muthu has urged NCSC Chairman Kishore Makwana to advocate for the release of 28 fishermen from Tamil Nadu.
On September 11, these fishermen from Idindakarai in Tirunelveli district were arrested by the Border Security Force in Bahrain for allegedly fishing across the border. More than a month later, they remain detained. Notably, two of the fishermen belong to the Scheduled Caste, prompting Muthu to take action.
After meeting with Makwana in his Delhi office, Muthu addressed the media, emphasizing the need for the National Commission for Scheduled Castes to pressure the Ministry of External Affairs to expedite the fishermen’s release. He also called for legal protections to ensure their safety. Muthu reported that Chairman Kishore has assured him of recommending appropriate action.
