Meenakshi Super Speciality Hospital is organising Meenakshi Neuroendovascular Intervention Conclave 2024, a 3-day workshop that aims to equip young neurosurgeons and post graduate students of neurosurgery with knowledge and skills in advanced neurointerventional techniques in the treatment of vascular conditions affecting the brain and spine, such as neuro aneurysm, Arteriovenous Malformation, and stroke.

To be held from October 18 to 20, 2024 at the hospital’s state-of-the-art Biplane Cath Lab, the first of its kind cath lab in South Tamil Nadu, used for diagnosing and treating neurovascular conditions, the workshop will be packed with expert talks, live cases, and hands-on training. In addition to neurosurgeons, the event will also benefit neurologists and radiologists.

The organising committee of MNI Conclave 2024 includes Dr Ramesh Ardhanari, Medical Director, and Mr. Dileep from Meenakshi Super Speciality Hospital.

In his comments Dr. Gowtham Kuncha, Consultant & Interventional Neurosurgeon, said that the hospital is proud to have a dedicated team of highly skilled neurosurgeons, along with competent neurologists and radiologists, who are committed to performing advanced neuro surgeries and interventions. “Recently, we successfully performed three neuro coilings for a patient with multiple aneurysms in a single sitting, which is considered a rare accomplishment in neuroendovascular intervention. In another remarkable case, our team conducted both surgery and coiling for the same patient. Our goal is to establish our hospital as a center of excellence for Neuro Interventional procedures and robot-assisted neurosurgical procedures in the state, providing the highest quality of care to our patients."

In his address, Dr Mukuntharajan, Senior Consultant & HOD, Department of Interventional Radiology, said that the highlight of the program is the availability of advanced infrastructure in the hospital, which is a prerequisite to conduct live case demonstrations and hands on training to enhance the skills of participants in cutting-edge neurointerventional procedures, which improve patient outcomes in complex vascular conditions affecting the brain and spine. “Historically, angiography imaging has been the standard for cardiovascular imaging. While most hospitals have single-plane angiography. Our hospital has biplane angiography, which is an advanced, minimally invasive technology used to diagnose and treat stroke and other neurological conditions. We are providing live case demonstrations in brain aneurysms, carotid artery blockages and arteriovenous malformations.”

In his comments, Dr Selvamuthukumaran, Senior Consultant & HOD, Department of Neurosurgery noted that recent years have seen significant advancements in neurointerventions for diagnosing and treating vascular conditions affecting the brain and spine such as aneurysms, which are swellings in blood vessels that can lead to internal bleeding.  Arteriovenous malformations, which are abnormal connections between arteries and veins that disrupt normal blood flow.  Strokes, which occur when blood flow is blocked or bleeding happens, causing brain cells to die from a lack of oxygen. However, there is a need to provide neurosurgery students and professionals with exposure to these techniques and technologies. We take immense pride in leading this effort with the MNI 2024 Conclave, which brings together leading neurosurgeons of national and international repute and provides a unique platform for knowledge dissemination and hands-on training for the benefit of young professionals in our state.

In his comments, Dr Senthilkumar, Senior Consultant, Department of Neurosurgery, said that the workshop is a significant step in advancing neurovascular care in the region. “We have lined up ten experts who will address the participants and take them through demonstrations with challenging live cases, and provide hands-on training in critical endovascular interventions such as aneurysm coiling, a minimally-invasive procedure used to treat brain aneurysms, stenting, and mechanical thrombectomy, a procedure used in removing blood clots (thrombi) from blood vessels. The participants will also have the opportunity to discuss challenging cases with the experts and gain insights into emerging Neuro Interventional procedures.”
